Confirmation

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4).

Together with Baptism and the Eucharist, Confirmation is one of the sacraments of Christian initiation that lay the foundations of every Christian life. By the sacrament of Confirmation, (the baptized) are more perfectly bound to the Church and enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed (CCC 1285).

For teens in high school (grades 8-12) St Hugh offers a two-year Confirmation preparation program. Please contact the Religious Education Office at 305-444-8363 or email dre@st-hugh.org.

If you are an adult who has not yet received this sacrament, we invite you to prepare to receive it by attending the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) classes.

Each person being confirmed will select a sponsor who will be for them a model of Christian life and will help them to grow in their faith and in bearing witness to Christ (cf. CCC 1311).

The sponsor may be a Catholic man or woman, at least 16 years old, who has already received the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion, lives a life of faith seriously so that he/she may serve as mentor for the Confirmation candidate. While baptismal godparents may be Confirmation sponsors, the parents of the candidate may not.
