Introduction to Fine Arts Elective
Welcome to the Fine Arts elective! This class will help you develop your artistic skills while encouraging you to reflect on how art connects with your Catholic faith. Art can be a way to express the beauty and creativity that God has gifted to each of us. We will explore various techniques and styles while embracing the values of respect, kindness, and service to others. Through your work, you can honor the Creator and appreciate the beauty surrounding us in creation. Our class will be an environment where you can express yourself, learn new skills, and create work that reflects your faith and talents.
Expectations
When you enter the art studio, be prepared to meet the following expectations:
- Respect: Treat yourself, the teacher, your classmates, and the supplies respectfully. Follow all directions given so that everyone can create the best art possible.
- Readiness to Create: Come on time with a positive attitude, a pencil, and a sketchbook each class period.
- Cleanliness: Keep the art studio organized and clean. The creative process flows best in a tidy space, and you can contribute by cleaning up after yourself and helping classmates when finished early.
- Focus and Participation: Stay focused and engaged with your projects. Talking with friends or walking around the classroom is prohibited during class time.
Consequences
- Two verbal or written warnings will be given for any conduct issues.
- If the behavior continues, the student will complete a think sheet.
- If there is further disruption, parents will be notified via email, and a disciplinary warning will be issued and a meeting with the Dean of Discipline.
- In extreme or repeated cases, a referral will be written.
- Students who arrive late will have a 10-point deduction from their participation grade for the day.
Positive Reinforcement
- If Mrs. Hevia notices you going above and beyond in following studio expectations or achieving the objectives for the day, you may place a pom-pom in your class’s jar.
- At the end of the semester, classes who work together to exceed expectations will earn the privilege of a class party!

- Undivided Attention
The student is responsible for maintaining a sketchbook, which will be used for notes, planning, and brainstorming for art projects. A pencil is essential for this class.
