Catapult Learning’s Literacy First™, a professional development and job-embedded coaching program, is a research-based framework of best practices and strategies designed to build teacher capacity to create a literacy-rich environment that motivates and engages students in their own learning.
The Science of Reading is comprised of more than 40 years of research pinpointing the pillars of any effective literacy program: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics and Word Recognition, Fluency and Vocabulary, and Comprehension.
The Program begins in kinder, 1st and 2nd grades and continues into the immediate grades of 3rd, 4th and 5th.
It focuses on phonological awareness, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing.
It incorporates the strategies of the “Reading Rope” which includes Language comprehension, background knowledge, vocabulary, language structures, verbal reasoning, literary knowledge, word recognition, sight recognition, phonological awareness and decoding.
