SWAN MAGAZINE

St. Hugh Creative Writing and Fine Arts Magazine

The SWAN Magazine is a unique creative project that celebrates the talent and hard work of our 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students guided by their ELA teachers. Every year, our young authors and illustrators have come together to create a book that showcases their writing and artistic skills. Through this collaborative effort, students have worked passionately to craft original stories, poems, and illustrations, bringing their ideas to life and demonstrating their creativity in both writing and fine arts.

In this project, our students not only developed their writing abilities but also learned the value of teamwork, patience, and the process of publishing. As they worked through each stage of this creative journey—from brainstorming to drafting, illustrating, editing, and finally preparing for publication—our students demonstrated true dedication and excitement. It has been a joy for their ELA teachers to witness their enthusiasm grow with the final product being sent for publication as authors and illustrators of an actual book!

This project also reflects our Catholic values of community, collaboration, and celebrating each student’s unique gifts. By working together, students have learned to support and encourage one another and appreciate the value of their individual contributions. Through their efforts, they’ve honed their artistic and writing skills and deepened their understanding of how creativity is a way of honoring God’s gifts in each of us.

Our published books arrive every year around Springtime, and we look forward to celebrating this amazing accomplishment. Their creativity, perseverance, and commitment have genuinely shone through, and as a school, we can’t wait to see their spectacular work!

The SWAN Magazine project is a testament to our students’ creativity, our ELA teacher’s hard work and dedication, and the strong values that bind our community together, and we are thrilled to see their hard work celebrated in this meaningful way.
